HIAB Hire Services

At Sherrington Lifting Services, we deliver professional HIAB hire solutions designed to provide a seamless combination of lifting and transportation in one efficient service. Our approach is built around reliability, flexibility, and precision, ensuring that every project—regardless of size or complexity—is completed safely and on schedule.

Whether you need to transport heavy machinery, construction materials, or specialist loads, our HIAB truck-mounted cranes offer a practical and cost-effective solution. By combining lifting and haulage into a single operation, we help reduce downtime, minimise the need for additional equipment, and streamline your entire logistics process. Our modern fleet includes a wide range of HIAB vehicles with varying lifting capacities, allowing us to match the right equipment to your exact requirements.

Reliable and Efficient HIAB Hire Solutions

HIAB hire is one of the most versatile solutions available for lifting and transporting heavy or awkward loads. By integrating a crane directly onto a heavy-duty lorry, HIAB vehicles are capable of loading, transporting, and unloading materials without the need for separate lifting equipment or additional contractors.

This all-in-one capability makes HIAB hire an ideal choice for industries such as construction, infrastructure, logistics, and utilities, where efficiency and precision are essential. Instead of coordinating multiple services, you benefit from a single, streamlined solution that saves time, reduces costs, and improves overall site productivity.

At Sherrington Lifting Services, we tailor every HIAB hire to suit your project. Whether you require a one-off lift or ongoing support for a large-scale operation, we provide dependable solutions across Liverpool, Manchester, the North West, and throughout the UK.

A Complete HIAB Hire Service from Start to Finish

When you choose Sherrington Lifting Services, you are not simply hiring a vehicle—you are gaining access to a fully managed lifting and transport solution. Every project begins with a clear understanding of your requirements, allowing us to recommend the most suitable HIAB vehicle and approach for the job.

Our fleet is fully certified, rigorously maintained, and compliant with all relevant UK safety standards, giving you confidence in both performance and reliability. Each HIAB is operated by an experienced and qualified professional who is trained in lifting operations, transport regulations, and on-site safety procedures.

We also provide flexible hire options to suit your needs, whether that involves short-term hire for a quick delivery or long-term support for ongoing projects. Our lift and haul service covers the entire process, from loading and secure transportation through to accurate placement at the final destination. This removes the need to organise additional equipment or personnel, helping to keep your project efficient and cost-effective.

Safety, Compliance, and Professional Standards

Safety is at the core of everything we do. At Sherrington Lifting Services, all HIAB operations are carried out in accordance with strict UK regulations, including BS 7121 for the safe use of cranes and LOLER 1998 requirements. Every lift is carefully planned and executed to minimise risk and ensure full compliance on site.

We take a proactive approach to risk management, which includes thorough planning, detailed assessments, and the use of fully insured and certified equipment. Our comprehensive coverage protects not only our machinery but also your project, your site, and your personnel. This commitment to safety ensures that every lift is completed with confidence and professionalism.

Versatile Applications for HIAB Hire

HIAB hire is widely used across a range of industries due to its adaptability and efficiency. In the construction sector, it provides a reliable solution for transporting and placing materials such as steel beams, scaffolding, roofing supplies, and bricks. The ability to lift materials directly into position significantly improves workflow and reduces manual handling on site.

For industrial and commercial projects, HIAB vehicles are commonly used to move heavy machinery, generators, and plant equipment. They also offer an effective way to transport and install shipping containers, site cabins, and modular buildings, even in locations where access is restricted or space is limited.

In addition, HIAB hire is particularly valuable for handling oversized or awkward loads that require specialist lifting techniques. With experienced operators and carefully planned lifts, even complex or challenging projects can be completed safely and efficiently.

Frequently Asked Questions

All cranes have a maximum design wind speed for safe operation. When the wind speed exceeds this limit the crane must be taken out of service. Different types of crane, different models of the same type of crane and different configurations of the same model may operate with different maximum wind speeds. The operating wind speed for the crane will allow for

the load having a certain wind area; if this is exceeded then the working wind speed will need to be reduced (see the manufacturer’s manual for information on this).

Typical maximum operating wind speeds are:

– Mobile Cranes 9.8 m/s (22 m.p.h.)
– Beaufort Scale 5

Hazards best avoided, where possible, include:

– Overhead electric lines
– Nearby structures
– Other cranes
– Railways
– Public access areas
– Airfields

Where any part of the crane or its load cannot be kept clear of these hazards, the appropriate authority, e.g. a local electricity supplier or Railtrack, must be consulted.

Danger from vaults or underground services must not be overlooked, and suitable precautions must be taken where they cannot be avoided.

Where the crane or its load passes closer than 600mm to an obstacle, effective precautions must be taken to avoid crushing, by preventing personnel accessing the area.

Where a crane is to be used within 15 metres plus the length of its jib, from overhead power lines on steel towers, (or 9 metres plus the length of the jib, from overhead lines on wood, concrete or steel poles) the guidance given in HSE Guidance Note GS6 must be followed.

Where a crane will work close to railway property (i.e. if it fell over and any part of it, or any load being lifted by it, could fall on railway property), consult the railway property owner and CPES.

If the crane is within 6 km of an airfield, and its height exceeds 10 m or that of the surrounding structures or trees, then the Appointed Person should seek the permission of the airfield manager before starting operations.

Cranes have very high axel weights, and need good solid ground the same as a lorry would need. You will also need to make sure there are no sharp objects in the path of the crane when gaining access to the site.
